There are 5 days off during the summer – they begin after the first week of camp and the last day off is the week before the end of camp. Counselors are considered “off” before breakfast and may sleep late. However, the camper cabin will be noisy during and after reveille and this should be expected. Counselors are responsible for their bed and cubby area prior to inspection and prior to leaving for the day. Your day off ends at curfew.
Our office staff members will always be happy to help you coordinate your travel plans.
You can always spend the day in camp. Want to paint a building? We’ll even supply the equipment. (It was worth a try –- besides, think of the money you’d save)!
Honesdale is located about 20 minutes from camp. There are a variety of specialty shops, stores, restaurants and local attractions.
Middletown is about 60 minutes from camp. Middletown is a city with several large and attractive shopping malls. The malls are your best bet and have a good selection of movies.
Cooperstown is about 2 hours by car. Home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and Doubleday Field, it hosts beautiful Otsego Lake. A nice idea for a day trip.
Travel through Oneonta, NY, a quaint college town, worth seeing.
New York City is only 2.5 hours away! Whether you travel there by bus or by car, the city is a great place to spend a day off.
All counselors will have a few evenings each week from 9:30PM until curfew to unwind. Two nights per week, every counselor takes an O.D. (“on-duty”) shift watching his/her bunk from the end of the evening activity until counselor curfew. Additionally, the entire staff stays on camp every Saturday night for a staff meeting, staff party and sometimes staff-only organized sporting events.
During time off, counselors and other staff members may use the camp facilities as long as that use does not interfere with ongoing camper activities. Waterfront facilities are available only when a qualified lifeguard is on duty. The Canteen (snack bar) is open everyday from 9:00 PM and 11:45 PM. We also provide free transportation to the town of Honesdale six nights a week for the staff. In addition, on staff days off, we will do our best to accommodate staff needs for rides into and out of town. Information regarding camp transportation will be provided when you get to camp.
