Tyler Hill Teen Program
“Upper Camp is a cool place to be at Tyler Hill.”
Overnight Trips Out of Camp
Overnight trips for Tyler Hill campers begin in seventh grade with a stay over at Hershey and Dorney Park. Eighth graders head to Boston for three days, ninth graders to Montreal, and our tenth and eleventh graders alternate between a five-day trip to Toronto or a five-day trip to Baltimore, Virginia and Washington, DC. Our oldest campers also go Whitewater Rafting for two days just before Visiting Day.
Teens and CIT’s
Tyler Hill’s Teen and CIT programs are strong. We are proud that our older campers choose to come back to Tyler Hill year after year – in spite of all of the other choices available to high school-aged children today. Our 9th, 10th and 11th grade campers can't imagine spending a summer away from the friends they have made at Tyler Hill and the place that has become a second home to them.
The Teen & CIT Programs begin with diverse programming, more day trips out of camp (including a visit to a college campus), more choice and flexibility daily, a later wake-up (they ARE teenagers, after all), many community service opportunities and strong staff and supervision. Our Upper Campers develop leadership skills at camp that then translate to their home lives.
Our CIT - "Counselors In Training" (going into 11th grade) are also part of our apprenticeship program in camp, through which they choose a specialty area and an age group with which they think they might like to work. For several hours each week, CIT’s are assigned to work with these groups so that they can get a feel for coming back the following summer as Junior Counselors. We provide structure, supervision, feedback and training so that they are successful AND prepared for their next summer as part of our staff!
